OK. After reading through that GameRant article linked to in the last post, I’m unclear whether the N7-Day patch was the promised for bug-fix patch, or if BioWare announced the bug-fix because it knew about its N7 surprise and didn’t want people to be confused.
Most people probably aren’t, but welcome to my little corner of reality friends. The waters just get muddier here on in. So muddy.
Also, most sadly, it turns out BioWare will not be making any DLCs for Veilguard like ever.
I’m sure BioWare is well aware that gamers are fickle little sluts who will take their fix wherever we can get it. They know we’re going to go and play other games until … 2029. That’s when Mass Effect 5 is projected to be released (although there is no actually date as they are still in the planning and pre-production stages I believe.
That’s a long hard road to wait for something they’ve already teased with images of Liara T’Soni apparently in the Andromeda galaxy. As great as Veilguard is, it’s not going to hold my attention for anywhere near that long. As far as I can tell now, I’m good for three very thorough playthroughs: one for each class.
It seems that more and more what one might call “blockbuster” games are being released with the announcement no DLCs will be forthcoming. It’s understandable, but a really big letdown. Games that large take years to make, and a thoroughly engaged team to make them. I can see not wanting to spend time and energy propping up a game when its successor is in the works.
On the other hand, five to ten years between games, and who is going to remember or care who Shepard was? By the time the next Mass Effect is out, players will be calling him a boomer (if they think of Shepard at all).
DLCs keep us engaged in a story while we wait for the next big chunk of it. New content can make an entire game seem almost like new again; a reason to replay the whole thing. It’s a shame to think they’re going by the wayside. Perhaps BioWare – or another gaming company – might consider outsourcing DLC production to a different studio. While we’re at it, I’d think there would be a great market for a secondary design house to come in behind a big production and handle the DLCs for the game as a licensed franchise.
I mean, Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been out for nine days and the door is already shut on any new content. On one hand, I’m glad to know now so I can savor the experience while it lasts. On the other I DON’T WANT TO DIE BEFORE I FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENS NEXT.
Deep cleansing breaths.
To misappropriate Einstein: I don’t know with what mechanics Mass Effect 5 will be played, but Mass Effect 6 will be played with giant, geriatric controllers with backlit buttons the size of Simon Says lights.
