I’m sure that I am not the first homeless person to play Guild Wars 2, but perhaps I am the first (probably not) to complete a piece of legendary armor from an 8 year old laptop with a dying battery while sitting in a van (down by the river! Well… the bay) and connected to a mobile hot spot on a iPhone XS.

It’s a very specific accomplishment.

I had about 30 minutes of battery power yesterday when I logged in right before reset and headed for Amnytas. All I needed to complete my 15th piece of Obsidian armor were two Pouches of Stardust. Well, heck. You get one out of the Hero’s Choice chest, and you get plenty of stardust pinches (250 pinches for one pouch) for the various accomplishments along the way.

The Defense of Amnytas is a long-ish meta. I really wasn’t sure I could get it done before time ran out. I sent my faithful little Dragonhunter, Smite Darksmoke, to do battle and everyone rocked it! OK, so Amnytas isn’t a tough meta now that everyone knows what they’re doing, but still…

I’m so stoked! I get a new battery for my ancient laptop on Monday or Tuesday, so I’ll soon be able to play for a few hours on a battery charge, rather than 40-70 minutes. And soon after that I should be able to connect to electricity.

SoTO is a great expansion pack for getting your game into high gear: easy access to the skyscale mount and a totally PvE path to legendary armor. I’m all over it! But also? I’m over it. I want to move on. There’s a whole new expac out, and I want to see something when I leave my home instance OTHER than the Wizard’s Tower.

Still… first homeless geezer (just in case the previous wasn’t specific enough) to achieve leggie armor while sitting in a 30 year old van with an 8 year old laptop connected to an 8 year old phone and using a mobile hot spot.

It felt like a win to me. Thanks, ArenaNet!
